"Everything is on hold."

Paulo Emílio _PE247 - The national president of the PPS, federal deputy Roberto Freire, told... SS 247 The negotiations for forming alliances with the PSB and PSDB are currently on hold. According to the congressman, contacts were made with these and other parties regarding the 2014 elections, but the situation is calmer now. Freire also said that the speculation surrounding the co-opting of José Serra – who is competing with Senator Aécio Neves from Minas Gerais for the presidency of the PSDB – is also stalled.

According to the post-socialist, the frenzy surrounding the initial moves to form alliances for 2014 was fueled by former President Lula himself. "He was the one who anticipated the succession process by launching Dilma's name for re-election. Now things are a little calmer," said the parliamentarian. Freire observes that this anticipation has already led to some unexpected events. "In Alagoas, she was booed by the population. The tendency is for this to be repeated. The further in advance the candidacy is launched, the greater the difficulty," he assesses.

Freire observes that although negotiations between the parties are at a slower pace, they remain firm. “The opposition can have several candidates. The government can only have one. Whether it's Dilma or Lula matters little. It will always be just one. The opposition, however, can field several. These movements are normal,” says the congressman.
