Epidemic: Goiás has nearly 100 cases of dengue fever.
The numbers are alarming, and the state Secretary of Health, Leonardo Vilela, believes that the end of the rainy season will help reduce cases; 98.563 people were infected as of May 6th, and the incidence of the disease in Goiás surpasses even São Paulo, a much more populous state: there are 968,9 cases per 100 inhabitants, second only to Acre and surpassing São Paulo, which has 911,9 cases of the disease per 100 inhabitants; in Goiás, there are 18 confirmed deaths from dengue and 50 more suspected deaths.

Secretary Leonardo Vilela believes that the dry season will help reduce the numbers. "I believe we are in a stabilization phase, with a downward trend in our cases. But that doesn't mean the population should become careless. The most effective way to combat dengue is by avoiding breeding grounds and not leaving standing water," says Leonardo.
The numbers in Goiás are alarming, and the state is second only to São Paulo in absolute numbers, but surpasses the most populous state when considering the incidence of dengue fever. Goiás is the second state with the highest incidence of the disease in Brazil: 968,9 cases per 100 inhabitants, behind only Acre, which registered 1.064,8 cases per 100 inhabitants, and surpassing the most populous state in the country, São Paulo, with 911,9 cases of the disease per 100 inhabitants.
Goiânia continues to be the city with the highest number of reported cases, 40.764. In 2nd place is Aparecida de Goiânia (8.523), followed by Anápolis (3.759), Jataí (2.709), Rio Verde (1.981), Ceres (1.805), Goianira (1.714), Mineiros (1.698), Goiatuba (1.577) and Caldas Novas (1.419).
The confirmed deaths occurred in Aparecida de Goiânia (02), Brazabrantes (01), Crixás (01), Goianésia (01), Goiânia (08), Iporá (01), Morro Agudo (01), Rialma (01), Rio Verde (01) and Trindade (01).
