Venezuelan immigration to Brazil reaches record levels in the first month of Lula's government.
According to the Federal Police, the number of Venezuelans arriving in Brazil in January increased by 16% compared to the first month of last year.
247 - The Federal Police (PF) said that 16.939 Venezuelans arrived in Brazil in January, a 16,6% increase compared to the first month of last year, when 14.521 Venezuelans entered Brazil. Throughout last year, 441 people entered Brazil daily, compared to 546 in January 2023, or 23,8% more. This information was published by... Panel column.
According to Tomás Guzmán, director of Institutional Relations at Casa Venezuela, an NGO that works with refugees from the neighboring country, the record number of Venezuelans in Brazil in January was a consequence of the rise in the dollar in Venezuela at the end of last year.
"This is reflected almost immediately in the difficulty people have in buying basic food items. In a dollarized economy like Venezuela's, the impact of this on migration flows is almost immediate," he said.
