Goiás 247 - The vice-governor and Secretary of Public Security and Penitentiary Administration, José Eliton, reported that “it is regrettable that suspects of serious crimes are released, putting the lives of the population at risk”. The statement was made during an interview on national television for the program Brasil Urgente, on Band, on Monday afternoon (11).
During the broadcast of the program, presented by anchor Joel Datena, José Eliton was asked about details of the crime that occurred in the district of Itacaiu, in the municipality of Britânia, in western Goiás, when Sergeant Uires Alves da Silva, 45, was killed. This Sunday, he and the commander-general of the Military Police of Goiás, Colonel Divino Alves, attended the wake and burial of the police officer, which took place in Jussara.
Regarding the incident, Eliton deeply regretted that the caretaker, Brunno Vieira de Sousa, 29, son of Ismael Pereira de Sousa, 49, who stole the weapon and killed the sergeant during the incident, was released by the Judiciary less than 24 hours after the murder. "Brazilian society needs to rise up against this," he said, condemning the impunity.
José Eliton described the actions of the caretaker father, Brunno, as cowardly; Brunno drew the PM's weapon from his waist and fired several shots at the sergeant. During the confusion, Ismael Pereira was also killed.
The head of the SSPAP (Secretariat of Public Security and Penitentiary Administration) points out that the police forces act "in defense of society, under the delegation of the State, and as such must be protected," stating that, in Goiás, measures have been created to protect public security professionals, such as legal assistance for men and women who become involved in conflicts while carrying out their duties.
When questioned about state support for the sergeant's family, he reaffirmed that the families of the police officers who were victims of the tragedy are receiving assistance from the state. "We are offering full support not only to the relatives of Sergeant Uires, but also to the other police officer, Soldier Hélio Bezerra de Souza, who was injured during the conflict," reported the head of the SSPAP (State Secretariat for Public Security and Penitentiary Administration).
Case
Sergeant Uires and Private Hélio Bezerra de Souza responded to a complaint of disturbance of the peace at a party in the district of Itacaiu. Upon arriving at the scene, the officers attempted to quell a disturbance and take Brunno Vieira de Sousa to the police station. During the conflict, the suspect's father drew a weapon from the sergeant's waistband and fired several shots.
In the confrontation, the gunman was shot and killed. Soldier Hélio Bezerra de Souza, who was also wounded, received treatment at Hugol Hospital in Goiânia, is not in danger of death, and should be discharged in the coming days. Less than a day after the incident, Brunno was released and awaits the investigation of the case while free.
