PE247 - Teachers in the private education network in the State of Pernambuco threaten to go on an indefinite strike starting this Wednesday (5) if there is no progress in negotiations with the employers. According to the Pernambuco Teachers' Union (Sinpro), around one million students will be left without classes if there is a massive participation by the category.
The decision will be made this Wednesday morning simultaneously at the Sinpro headquarters in Recife and at the sub-offices in Caruaru, Limoeiro, and Petrolina. According to the teachers, the Union of Private Educational Establishments (Sinepe) is not willing to meet the demands of the category. "Sinpro understands that the employers' proposal does not meet the needs of the teachers and is disrespectful to the category, since it denies the entire list of demands and suggests the withdrawal of rights already won by educators," says the statement sent to the press by Sinpro.
According to the general coordinator of Sinpro Pernambuco, Jackson Bezerra, the owners of educational establishments applied an average increase of 12% to school fees and are offering only a 7% increase for teachers. The list of demands includes the unification of minimum wages at R$12,00 per hour/class, a 10% salary increase, meal vouchers for all teachers working two shifts at the same school, as well as agreements and health plans.
