In Pernambuco, Temer says he only knows about drought from books and praises secrecy in plea bargains.
While passing through Pernambuco, Michel Temer stated that the president of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), Cármen Lúcia, was right to approve and keep secret the plea bargains of Odebrecht; "The minister had already pre-announced that she would very possibly approve them today or tomorrow. She did what she should do and, in that sense, she did correctly," he said; Temer, in Pernambuco to inaugurate a pumping station for the water transfer project, admitted that he only knows the drama of the Northeast's drought from books: "I know how much this region has suffered over time. Just read the novels of Northeastern authors," he stated.
Pernambuco 247 - While passing through Pernambuco, Michel Temer stated that the president of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), Minister Cármen Lúcia, was right to approve the plea bargains of 77 executives and former executives of the Odebrecht construction company and to maintain the confidentiality of the content of the testimonies.
"The minister had already pre-announced that she would most likely approve it today or tomorrow. She did what she should have done and, in that sense, she did it correctly," said Temer, subtly praising the maintenance of the confidentiality of the plea bargains. Temer was in Pernambuco to inaugurate the third pumping station (EBV-3) of the East Axis of the São Francisco Integration Project.
Despite praising the minister's decision, the PMDB member made no mention of the nomination of the minister who will fill the vacancy left by Teori Zavascki, the rapporteur for Operation Lava Jato at the Court, who died in a plane crash on the 19th.
During the event in Pernambuco, Temer reiterated that "although from São Paulo, he hopes to be considered one of the best presidents from the Northeast that Brazil has ever had." Temer had also used this statement in December when he was visiting Pernambuco.
"I say this with great joy, because I know how much this region has suffered over time. Just read the novels by authors from the Northeast," he stated.
Although he did not mention the names of his predecessors, the PMDB member offered veiled praise to former presidents Fernando Henrique Cardoso (PSDB), Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and Dilma Rousseff (both from the PT), for conceiving and initiating the implementation of the transposition project. "Here in Brazil, when you deliver a project, you forget who started it. I want to pay tribute to the previous governments that had the idea, 15 years ago, of carrying out the transposition of the São Francisco River."
