During two holidays, 60 deaths occurred on Minas Gerais roads.
Minas Gerais, which has the largest road junction in the country, suffers from the poor quality of its highways. During the Corpus Christi long weekend alone, 37 people died on the state's roads.
Minas 247 - The Military Police and the Federal Highway Police released the toll from the Corpus Christi long weekend on Minas Gerais highways. At least 37 people died on the state's roads and another 506 were injured.
Thus, adding to the last long weekend – May 1st, when 22 people lost their lives on state roads – it becomes clear that traveling by car in the state is extremely risky during holidays: there are practically 60 deaths, a number that is certainly higher due to accidents that are not reported to the police.
The good news, if it can be called that, is that the number of deaths fell this year compared to 2010, when it was 29 during Corpus Christi. The number of injuries also decreased: 283 in 2012 compared to 330 last year. Also during the long holiday weekend from Thursday to Sunday, 36 people were arrested for driving under the influence and 412 were driving without a license.
