"The 2014 election will be the lowest and most shameful."

A fierce critic of the government, state deputy Samuel Barreto (PSL) stated, via Twitter, that the year "has barely begun and they are already trying everything to discredit the opposition"; according to him, the upcoming election "will make many people miss Déda's ethics"; the statements were allegedly motivated by criticism leveled against him on social media; the parliamentarian claims to be a victim of attacks because he "does not surrender or sell out to the system."

Sergipe 247 - One of the most avid critics of the current government on Twitter, state deputy Samuel Barreto (PSL) stated this week that "this year's election will be the lowest and most shameful in recent times." According to him, "it has barely begun and they are already trying everything to discredit the opposition." The parliamentarian also said that the upcoming election "will make many people miss Déda's ethics."

Samuel's statements were reportedly motivated by criticism he received on social media. "When you can't refute an argument, you resort to discrediting the arguer. A tactic of those who 'take the government's bait. Who will feel targeted?", he said. The congressman further stated that "the government and those who 'take the bait' will do everything to see all those who don't surrender or sell themselves to the system lose the election." He added: "Despite everything, I will continue to defend the democratic right to freedom of expression."

Military police officer Samuel focuses a good part of his speech on criticizing the state's public security policy. According to him, the sector lacks planning. "Public security isn't achieved with a magic wand. We need planning, integration with other departments, and to be firm against criminals. I demand planning from the Sergipe government in security to see it working and showing results with the satisfaction of law-abiding citizens," he said.

"The police do an excellent job in combating drug traffickers. Where are the other departments to take care of prevention and care? According to the SSP/SE (Sergipe State Public Security Secretariat), 80% of bus robberies are committed by crack addicts. Where are the actions of the Social Inclusion Secretariat in drug prevention? 80% of the inmates in the women's prison are there because of involvement with drugs. Where are the actions of the Health Secretariat taking care of addicts? The SSP/SE is alone in this battle where there are several fronts of combat. We will not be able to defeat drugs with the police alone. The government of Sergipe should hold weekly joint meetings of the Secretariats of Inclusion, Health and Security to initiate concrete actions against drugs. The government of Sergipe does too much propaganda, even involving technicians in advertising campaigns, Iunes and Catarina, but the results are lamentable," he stated.
