Edvaldo on the DEM-PTB merger: 'It's unpleasant'
Contrary to the ongoing merger of DEM with his party, PTB, Salvador city councilman Edvaldo Brito reiterates his arguments to justify his opposition to the arrangement; he emphasizes the distinct ideological positions between the two parties; "I think it's wrong. A politician cannot join an opposing party. It's not pleasant. The president of PTB in Bahia, Jonival Lucas, is also against it. I've never been there. Now it's difficult. After 30 years, why join a party that's the opposite of yours?", argues Edvaldo.
Bahia 247 - Contrary to the ongoing merger of DEM with his party, PTB, Salvador councilor Edvaldo Brito once again gives his arguments to justify his opposition to the arrangement. In an interview with Metrópole radio this Monday (4), he highlighted the distinct ideological positions between the two parties.
"I think it's wrong. A politician can't join an opposing party. It's not pleasant. The president of the PTB in Bahia, Jonival Lucas, is also against it," said Edvaldo.
Despite the opposition from the PTB's state leadership, the move has the support of national leaders, such as the party's vice-president, federal deputy Benito Gama. On the DEM side, the party's top leader, Mayor ACM Neto, is counting down the days until the merger actually happens.
Edvaldo Brito also makes it clear again that he does not intend to remain in the PTB. "Benito is frankly in favor. But going back there wouldn't be very difficult. Not me, I've never been there, now it's difficult. After 30 years, why would you join a party that's the opposite of yours?"
The councilman refers to Benito in relation to the fact that he began his political career alongside former senator Antonio Carlos Magalhães and then distanced himself from them.
