PE247 – The governor of Pernambuco and potential presidential candidate, Eduardo Campos (PSB), will meet this Tuesday (16) with 13 senators from PTB, PSC, PR and PPL, who form the União e Força bloc, to discuss issues such as the Federal Pact and the renegotiation of states' debts with the Union. The meetings are being arranged by parliamentarians Jarbas Vasconcelos (PMDB-PE) and Armando Monteiro (PTB-PE). The objective is to strengthen the relationship with parliamentarians dissatisfied with the treatment given by President Dilma Rousseff (PT) and to expand political support around the governor towards his presidential project in 2014.

The PSB candidate will meet with members of the bloc representing Piauí, Alagoas, Mato Grosso, Roraima, Amazonas, Sergipe, São Paulo, Tocantins, Espírito Santo, Maranhão, and the Federal District. Campos will discuss issues of national importance, such as reducing the index used to calculate state and municipal debts to the federal government from 13% to 9%.

“The government made a huge effort to lower the Selic rate, the basic interest rate, and we cannot allow states and municipalities to continue paying a reference rate that is almost double the Selic interest rate,” the governor told the press. In the evening, Campos will meet with other senators. Present at the meeting will be parliamentarians from Santa Catarina, such as Luiz Henrique and Cassildo Maldaner, from Mato Grosso do Sul (Wladimir Moka) and from Espírito Santo (Ricardo Ferraço) – all from the dissident wing of the PMDB. Also expected to attend are Cristovam Buarque (DF) and Pedro Taques (MT), both from the PDT; Ana Amélia (PP-RS) and Jaime Campos (DEM-MT).
