Eduardo da Fonte wants to revoke Celpe's concession.
With the aim of revoking Celpe's concession contract, federal deputy Eduardo da Fonte (PP-PE) submitted a representation to the Attorney General of the Republic, Roberto Gurgel, requesting an investigation into the civil and criminal liability of the directors of both agencies; Furthermore, in a document addressed to the Director-General of Aneel, Romeu Donizetti Rufino, the parliamentarian states that "Celpe has always provided one of the worst services in the country."
PE247 – After the death of a 59-year-old man from an electric shock from a pole, in the Torrões neighborhood, West Zone of Recife, last Friday (21), federal deputy Eduardo da Fonte (PP-PE), who chairs the House's Mines and Energy Committee, will seek punishment for the Pernambuco Energy Company (Celpe) and the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel). To this end, he sent a representation to the Attorney General of the Republic, Roberto Gurgel, for the investigation of civil and criminal liability of the directors of both bodies.
According to the congressman, Celpe's poor service resulted in the deaths of 32 people between 2012 and 2013. In a document addressed to the Director-General of Aneel, Romeu Donizetti Rufino, the congressman requests that Celpe's concession be declared "expired".
"Celpe has always provided one of the worst services in the country," the congressman says in the document. "Over time, the concessionaire managed to worsen what was already bad, irresponsibly and criminally contributing to the loss of 32 lives due to failures in the maintenance of the public distribution network," he states.
The death of the young man last Friday (21) was the second in Recife in ten days due to electric shock. On the 11th, a lawyer identified as Davi Lima Santiago Filho, 37 years old, died after stepping on a high-voltage wire that had come loose from a pole, in Setúbal, South Zone of the Pernambuco capital.
Regarding the incident on the 11th, Celpe informed, through a statement, that it will provide the necessary assistance to the young man's family. As for the second accident, the company stated that the pole where the electrical current leaked, as well as the electrical network, are not under the agency's responsibility and are only part of the public lighting system.
