Eduardo Campos defends holding a plebiscite.

The governor of Pernambuco and president of the PSB party, Eduardo Campos, said, after meeting with President Dilma Rousseff and other presidents of parties in the governing coalition, that they overwhelmingly consider a plebiscite the best way for Brazilian society to be heard and participate in the country's political reform, which has been hindered for 20 years by partisan political interests; "If the National Congress decides on a plebiscite, it will be able to objectively hear from society and have guidelines that have not been established in these more than 20 years of democracy."

Brasilia – The governor of Pernambuco and president of the PSB, Eduardo Campos, said today (27), after meeting with President Dilma Rousseff and other presidents of parties in the government base, that, in a majority way, they consider the plebiscite as the best way for Brazilian society to be heard and participate in the political reform in the country, which, for 20 years, was made unfeasible by political-partisan interests.

"If the National Congress decides to hold a plebiscite, it will be able to objectively listen to society and establish guidelines that haven't been built in these more than 20 years of democracy because, often, the interest in the reelection of A or B, the interest of this or that party, ended up making political reform unfeasible. Now, society will express itself and set the guidelines for what kind of political reform, in the understanding of the Brazilian people, is closest to what society desires," said Campos.

For him, there is a great distance between society, which has advanced rapidly, and the political forces, which have stagnated and now need to renew themselves. “All political parties, all political forces in Brazil, need to understand the distance that has been established between society and its representation, as if governments, and also parties, were analog, or pre-analog, and society, digital,” emphasized the president of the PSB. “So, we will need to use these tools [plebiscite] to ensure that the opinion of society is expressed in the life of the Powers, of the Brazilian State, and to fuel renewal,” he said.

Eduardo Campos emphasized that there is an understanding that all institutions in the country are challenged to provide answers and correct the mistakes made. In this sense, according to him, the allied parties are willing to help the government continue its efforts to listen to and respond to the population.

In addition to the president of the PSB, the following participated in the meeting with President Dilma Rousseff: the national presidents of the PP, Senator Ciro Nogueira (PI); of the PR, Senator Alfredo Nascimento (AM); of the PTB, Benito Gama; of the PDT, Carlos Lupi; of the PSD, Gilberto Kassab; of the PRB, Marcos Pereira; of the PCdoB, Renato Rabelo; of the PT, State Representative Rui Falcão (SP); of the PMDB, Senator Valdir Raupp (RO); Vice-President Michel Temer; and the ministers of the Secretariat of Institutional Relations, Ideli Salvatti, of Education, Aloizio Mercadante, and of Justice, José Eduardo Cardozo.
