Eduardo Campos supports Serra in Freire's PPS party.

According to the governor of Pernambuco and potential presidential candidate in 2014, the candidacy of the former governor of São Paulo would hinder Senator Aécio Neves' (PSDB) entry into the state, giving the race a scenario similar to the last one, between President Dilma Rousseff, Serra, and former minister Marina Silva, which would favor new names, such as his own.

PE247 - According to the governor of Pernambuco, Eduardo Campos, José Serra's move to the PPS party, which would launch the former governor of São Paulo's presidential candidacy in 2014, could benefit him.

This is because with Serra's entry, the race would make it more difficult for Aécio Neves, from the PSDB party, to enter the São Paulo race, repeating the scenario of the 2010 elections and therefore favoring new names, like his, from the PSB party.

Read the note published in the Painel column of Folha de S.Paulo this Sunday:

Next... Despite risking losing the support of the PPS, Eduardo Campos (PSB) has said that he supports José Serra joining Roberto Freire's party to run for the presidency in 2014.

... chapters According to the Pernambuco native, the candidacy of the former São Paulo governor would hinder Aécio Neves' (PSDB) entry into São Paulo and give the election the feel of a repeat of the dispute between Dilma, Serra, and Marina Silva, which would favor new names.

Open doors

The president of the PPS party, Congressman Roberto Freire, declared that the party's doors remain open should the former governor wish to join. Recently, he wrote on Twitter that the party was still awaiting a response from Serra on the matter. According to a report in the newspaper O Estado de S.Paulo this Sunday, Freire states that the former governor's response should be forthcoming.

"His timing isn't just legal, but political, especially since he needs to gather allies. He can't be the one being led; in this process, he's leading and therefore can't be the last to decide. I think that decision will be made soon, but Serra is Serra and has his own evaluation timeline," said the congressman.

Two days ago, however, Serra denied that he was changing parties and said he was "surprised by the speculation about a supposed move to the PPS, of former senator Roberto Freire." In São Paulo, where he gave a lecture at Ciesp (Center of Industries of the State of São Paulo), he declared: "I don't know who said I'm leaving the PSDB. I don't know where these speculations came from."
