The economy of Rio Grande do Sul stagnated in 2014.

This is what the data from the Foundation for Economics and Statistics (FEE) indicates; in the state, the best performance was in agriculture, which saw a 0,6% increase, influenced by the bumper soybean harvest that reached 14,8 million tons, a volume 13,7% higher than the previous year's result; while the manufacturing industry, which represents almost two-thirds of the state's production, fell by 4,2%.

Rio Grande do Sul 247 – Even with the bumper grain harvest, the economy of Rio Grande do Sul stagnated in 2014. This is what the data released this Tuesday (7) by the Foundation for Economics and Statistics (FEE) shows. The state's performance was slightly worse than the country's, which grew 0,1% in the same period, according to data released by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

In the state, agriculture performed well among the sectors, growing by 0,6%, influenced by the bumper soybean harvest that reached 14,8 million tons, a volume 13,7% higher than the previous year's result. The service sector also showed growth, of 1,2%.

The industrial sector performed poorly. The manufacturing industry, which accounts for almost two-thirds of the state's production, fell by 4,2%. The construction sector, which had been strong in recent years, contracted by 4,2%, reflecting the completion of works for the World Cup.
