EAS resumes contracts worth R$ 4,2 billion with Transpetro.

PE247 - The Atlântico Sul Shipyard (EAS), located in the Suape Industrial and Port Complex (PE), has managed to resume contracts for the construction of 12 vessels with Transpetro. According to the president of the state-owned company, Sérgio Machado, EAS managed to meet the requirements imposed by the company, which implies business worth around R$ 4,2 billion. According to Machado, EAS “found a new technological partner, presented a schedule and provided security for the construction of these ships”. The announcement of the resumption of contracts was made this Monday (20), shortly after the delivery of the oil tanker Zumbi dos Palmares to Transpetro.

EAS's problems began to emerge in the first quarter of last year, when the Korean company Samsung withdrew from the business. Shortly after, in May, the oil tanker João Cândido was delivered to the Petrobras subsidiary two years late and after undergoing a series of repairs. With the departure of the technology partner and without a reliable schedule, EAS had 16 of its 22 contracts suspended by Transpetro.

Faced with these setbacks, Transpetro demanded the replacement of the technology partner, a new schedule for the delivery of the ships, and compliance with the requirements of the projects in the portfolio. A new technology partner, the Japanese company IHI Marine United Inc. (Ihimu), joined the business, and the other obligations were readjusted, allowing the contracts to be resumed.

The next ship built by EAS and to be delivered to Petrobras' subsidiary will be the oil tanker Dragão dos Mar, whose construction should be completed this year.
