And so the CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry) moves forward for the people of Goiás to see...
The president and rapporteur of the commission that will investigate the connections of politicians from Goiás have signed a manifesto of support and confidence in one of the main figures under suspicion: Governor Marconi Perillo. And they are targeting mayors who are political opponents of the government. Is this the "CPI of mockery"?
Goiás 247 – The Parliamentary Inquiry Commission (CPI) established in the Legislative Assembly of Goiás to investigate the links between Goiás politicians and illegal activities has already held three meetings, but so far the main effect it has produced has been distrust. This Tuesday, the 22nd, two requests were approved: one, requesting copies of lawsuits against the company Gerplan from the State Court of Justice; the second, dealing with the scheduling of a visit by parliamentarians to the Cachoeira Parliamentary Inquiry Commission (CPMI), established by the National Congress.
The main point of distrust lies in its direction. So far, it has shifted almost all the blame for the debate generated by the Carlinhos Cachoeira scandal onto previous governments. It also focuses on analyzing contracts with municipalities, something that is highly questionable from a constitutional standpoint.
Coincidentally – or not – the municipalities targeted are those occupied by opponents of Governor Marconi Perillo and the president of the Assembly, Jardel Sebba (both from the PSDB party), who is a pre-candidate for mayor of Catalão. In Tuesday's session, for example, the contracts signed between Delta Construtora and the municipalities were received.
But, for now, the most affected target is the mayor of Aparecida de Goiânia, Maguito Vilela, who was governor during the Gerplan-Government of Goiás partnership. And this is happening at a particularly fragile moment for him: he's doing poorly in the polls for reelection.
Coincidence? No: irony. Because, in recent months, Marconi Perillo's main ally within the PMDB, the opposition party, has been precisely Maguito, who has lavishly praised the politician, even going so far as to embarrass his son, state deputy Daniel Vilela, who is in opposition to the government in the Assembly.
The Alcides Rodrigues administration is also being questioned, for example, regarding the contract with Delta for the supply of vehicles to the Security Secretariat, even though the contract was extended and increased in value under the current administration. And here's another irony: deputies who criticize Alcides' administration were once members of his top-level staff.
The main point that generates the most questioning about the purpose and future of the CPI, however, lies in a widely publicized fact that has been little analyzed from the point of view of its representativeness. In an attempt to mitigate friction with Governor Marconi Perillo and to show support, the government leader, Helder Valin, and the president of the Assembly, Jardel Sebba, organized an event at the Palácio das Esmeraldas to deliver a document with the signatures of deputies.
Among the deputies who signed were members of the commission whose objective is to investigate possible links between "politicians from Goiás" involved with Cachoeira. How, then, could Marconi Perillo, one of the main targets of the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry in Brasília, be left out? And if Marconi will be a target, what to say about a document that already anticipates his "innocence"? How can one trust someone who signs, in advance, a "Note of Support and Confidence" for someone who will be investigated?
“We believe that the malicious and unfounded accusations, born from irresponsibility, hasty judgment, and political persecution, will not prosper,” the document states verbatim. If the investigators believe this, what can we expect from the investigation?
This is how the Assembly's CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry) is progressing. In the words of deputy Luis César Bueno (PT), the "CPI of mockery".

In an exemplary manner, Governor Marconi Perillo has respectfully made himself fully available to the Judiciary, the National Congress, and the Legislative Assembly to clarify whatever is necessary and demonstrate the legality of all his actions.
