SP 247 - After spending the week campaigning across Brazil, João Doria left the São Paulo capital once again. This time, he headed to Barretos, in the interior of the state, where he fulfilled a typical campaign agenda.
During a visit to the Barretos Cowboy Festival on Saturday night, the mayor of São Paulo wore a hat, ate a typical cowboy meal, went on stage, addressed the approximately 35 people present at the rodeo stadium, and spoke about bringing rodeo to the capital.
After receiving gifts such as a belt buckle and a hat, Doria stated that he was visiting Barretos as a "friend," "not as a pre-candidate for the Presidency of the Republic," and ate the typical meal of the cowboys in the area.
Next, accompanied by Congressman Fernando Capez (PSDB), he went to the rodeo stadium, took selfies with more than a dozen people, and watched bull riding from the stage.
Before addressing the audience, Doria was greeted by rodeo announcer Cuiabano Lima. "On behalf of the esteemed president [of the festival] Hussein Gemha Júnior, and the mayor of Barretos, Guilherme Ávila [PSDB], we are warmly welcoming a man who has been changing the lives of people every day in the largest capital of this country, in the fifth largest city on this planet, which is the capital of São Paulo [...] João Doria, the name of John, apostle of Jesus, the man of charity, the man of work, the man of humility," said the announcer.
Next, Doria praised the organization of the event and spoke for about three minutes. "I'm going to issue a challenge to the Independents [the association that organized the festival]: let's organize a similar festival in São Paulo very soon," said Doria, who then performed a choreographed dance with his arms, the announcer, and the audience present at the stadium designed by Oscar Niemeyer (1907-2012).
