From the Center of the World Diary

Even before Bruno Covas completes a year as the most powerful secretary in the municipal administration, in the Subprefectures, the mayor of São Paulo, João Doria, will change the deputy mayor's position: he will be responsible for the political articulation of the City Hall with the City Council.

The replacement of this and other secretaries should be announced by this Wednesday (1st).

The change reveals more than just a strain in the relationship between the mayor and his deputy; it also represents an important political move: politician Bruno Covas (PSDB) is leaving, and Cláudio Carvalho de Lima is taking over, assuming the role of managing important actions within the city government.

Carvalho is linked to the Free Brazil Movement (MBL). He will occupy the most important municipal secretariat and will be responsible for managing one of the city's most important programs, the Clean City program, and for visible actions for residents and visitors of the city, such as garbage collection and street paving.
