MELBOURNE, Jan 19 (Reuters) - Serbian Novak Djokovic embodied his new coach Boris Becker both on and off the court in yet another flawless performance to advance to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open this Sunday.
The reigning champion and three-time winner of the tournament crushed the Italian number 15 seed, Fabio Fognini, in three straight sets (6-3, 6-0, 6-2).
Djokovic lost only ten points on his serve, a specialty of Becker, throughout the entire match, and Fognini could only play around in the final set in an attempt to distract the number 2 seed.
However, the real fun began later, when the Serbian imitated Becker's serving style, walk, and gestures, while the German watched from the audience.
"I saw his reactions," the tennis player told the press. "When I hit my serves, he was happy and applauding."
"When I told him what he's like today, with his problems and everything, he didn't seem so happy. He got upset. But it's all for a good laugh."
"This is the first time in a long time that I've done a Becker impersonation. I don't know how I did. Was it OK? I'll have to gain some weight and dye my hair for a real Becker impersonation."
While Djokovic was playful after the match, he was quite serious during the game.
After breaking Fognini's serve once to win the first set, he took 14 of the next 15 points and went up 4-0 in the second.
Djokovic admitted he was happy with his game.
"I'm bringing this confidence from my wins in the last two months of 2013, and I'm starting this season well. I'm trying to maintain it," he stated.
The Serbian said it was a challenge to remain serious when Fognini joked around during the match and even threw his racket over the net to him.
Djokovic's next opponent is either the eighth seed, Stanislas Wawrinka, or Tommy Robredo.
