Djalma requests suspension of price increases in shopping malls.

The President of the Consumer Protection Committee of the City Council, a councilor, requested the Municipal Procon this Tuesday (7) to ask for the immediate suspension of the increase in parking fees in shopping centers in the Capital, especially in Flamboyant, where the price was increased by 86%; he argues that the readjustment is illegal (there is no law that justifies it) and is far above inflation.

Goiás247_ Councilman Djalma Araújo (SDD), president of the Consumer Protection Committee of the City Council, requested that the Municipal Procon (Consumer Protection Agency) immediately suspend the increase in parking fees at shopping malls in the capital, especially at Flamboyant, where the increase reached 86%, meaning that consumers who previously paid R$ 4,50 for three hours will now pay around R$ 8,40.

In his legal representation, Djalma argues that the price increase is illegal, as it exceeds inflation. He points out that there is no law justifying or supporting the increase. According to Djalma, the price increase, already applied at the Flamboyant Shopping Mall, further exploits customers who already spend money in the stores and shouldn't have to pay the fee. He notes that there is no municipal law permitting such an increase, which renders the measure unconstitutional.

The councilman hopes that the agency will take the necessary actions to ensure that consumers have their rights protected. “We cannot allow this abusive measure against the people of Goiânia. This is a criminal act by the business owners,” he stated. In turn, Miguel Tiago, president of Procon (the consumer protection agency), stated that he is available and will immediately request information from the shopping malls regarding the justification for the price increase. Djalma was accompanied by Zander Fábio, Paulo da Farmácia, Divino Rodrigues, Wellington Peixoto, and other council members.

Djalma reports that he will still request the opening of a public civil action at the State Public Prosecutor's Office (MP-GO) and the opening of an investigation at the State Consumer Protection Police Station (Decom). Djalma is the author of the law that exempted consumers from paying parking fees, but the law was overturned by a court decision in 2011. Djalma will resubmit the bill requesting exemption for customers who make purchases in shopping malls. The law was approved in 2011, but the courts overturned its application.
