Household debt in Recife is the fifth highest in the country.

With R$ 2.174, Recife (PE) had the fifth highest average debt per family in the entire country in the 2011/2012 annual comparison. Florianópolis was first (R$ 2.505), followed by Porto Alegre (R$ 2.504), then Vitória (R$ 2.499), and finally Belo Horizonte (R$ 2.174) in fourth place. PE247 – With R$ 2.174, Recife (PE) had the fifth highest average debt per family in the entire country in the 2011/2012 annual comparison. Florianópolis was first (R$ 2.505), followed by Porto Alegre (R$ 2.504), Vitória (R$ 2.499) in second, and Belo Horizonte (R$ 2.174) in fourth. The lowest values ​​were in Boa Vista (R$ 1.005), Porto Velho (R$ 1.051), Rio Branco (R$ 1.082), Macapá (R$ 1.276), and Manaus (R$ 1.339). The data is from the research "Radiography of Brazilian Family Debt," conducted by the Federation of Commerce of Goods, Services and Tourism of the State of São Paulo (FecomercioSP).

In the other four categories – percentage of indebted families, absolute number of families with debts, monthly portion of income committed to debt, and families with overdue debts – the capital of Pernambuco does not rank among the five highest or the five lowest indicators at the national level.

Regarding the average value in the Northeast Region, after Recife comes Aracaju (R$ 2.053), followed by João Pessoa (R$ 2.004), while the lowest values ​​are in Maceió (R$ 1.529), São Luís (R$ 1.489) and Fortaleza (R$ 1.409).

The survey indicated that all northeastern capitals experienced a reduction in the number of indebted families. Recife appears in third position, having shown a decline of 12%, behind Salvador (39% - the highest in the country) and Fortaleza (17%). After the capital of Pernambuco, comes Aracaju (7%), São Luís (6%), Teresina (3%), and Maceió, João Pessoa and Natal (2%). The national average showed a decrease of 5%.

Regarding the percentage of indebted families, Salvador ranks first, with a 40% increase, corresponding to 348.065 families. Maceió comes in second with 77% (202.626), followed by Fortaleza with 52% (361.873). Recife is in sixth place with 67%, equivalent to 319.580 families. Nationally, Curitiba (PR) leads the ranking in this respect (88%), while the lowest rate is in Manaus (50%).

Regarding the variable "Monthly portion of income committed to debt," the capital of Bahia, Salvador, also ranks first, with 30%, followed by Maceió (37%) and Fortaleza (33%). Recife is in sixth place (29%). Nationally, Teresina (PI) is the state that appears in first place (40%), and at the bottom are Florianópolis (SC) and Belo Horizonte (MG), both with 28%.
