Here's an excerpt from the call to action for the demonstration:
This week is crucial for the working class and for Brazilians who most need public policies to have a dignified life. The Senate is scheduled to begin the final vote on the impeachment, a coup d'état against the mandate of President Dilma Rousseff, legitimately won at the polls, on the 25th. Dilma risks losing her mandate without having committed any crime of responsibility – an attack against democracy and against the Brazilian people.
And the goal of the coup plotters is clear: they want to take away labor and social rights, reduce or eliminate programs like Minha Casa, Minha Vida (My House, My Life), ProUni (University for All Program), and Ciências sem Fronteiras (Science Without Borders); reduce the value of benefits and increase the minimum retirement age; approve measures to drastically reduce spending on health and education; expand outsourcing, which maims and kills, and end the CLT (Consolidation of Labor Laws).
Social movements intend to intensify their actions in the days leading up to the final impeachment trial in the Senate. On the 29th, the day of the final vote and when Dilma is expected to present her defense, there will be a large mobilization across the country, especially in Brasília, organized by the CUT (Unified Workers' Central).
The movements are also not ruling out a general strike against the coup. On Wednesday the 24th, Dilma will participate in an event with the same purpose, also called by the Popular Brazil Front, at the Bancários Theater in Brasília, at the same time (check here).
