World Cup Portal - With a leaf-shaped roof and a remodeled facade in the colors of Sport Club Internacional, the Beira-Rio stadium in Porto Alegre is modernized and ready for the preparation tests for the 2014 World Cup. This Thursday (February 19.02th), at 9 am, President Dilma Rousseff and the Minister of Sport, Aldo Rebelo, will visit the stadium to see firsthand the details of the new "Giant of Beira-Rio," which hosted its first game after the renovation on February 15th.

The ball rolled for the first time in the new stadium in a match valid for the Rio Grande do Sul State Championship: with the arena's capacity limited to 10 fans, Internacional returned to its home in great style by beating Caxias 4-0. Left-back Fabrício scored the first goal in the new arena, at 21 minutes of the first half. The match also served as a test event for the World Cup.

The club's objective is to gradually implement the stadium's functionalities until it reaches its maximum capacity of 50 people. Some finishing work will still be done in certain areas of the stadium, and the surrounding area is also undergoing construction to facilitate access for fans. The official reopening of the stadium will be in early April. On February 26th, Internacional will host Brasil de Pelotas at the Beira-Rio stadium in a match also valid for the State Championship.
