Diego is practically out of Wolfsburg.
The German club gave the Brazilian star two options: leave or play for Wolfsburg B, in the fourth division.
247, with information from Agência Estado – Midfielder Diego risks ending his time on European pitches, where he has played since 2004. The board of Wolfsburg, the German club for which he plays, has sidelined the former Santos number 10 and given him two options: play for Wolfsburg B, in the fourth division of Germany, or pack his bags and leave. The decision was made by coach Felix Magath. The management supported him and is awaiting offers from clubs interested in signing him.
Magath and the Volkswagen team's management in Germany were reportedly unhappy with Diego's behavior and constant acts of indiscipline. The problems began in February, when the team was still managed by Steve McLaren. In a match against Hannover, the coach ordered Helmes to take a penalty. Diego ignored him, took the penalty, and missed. Wolfsburg lost 1-0, and Diego was fined 100 euros.
The team's second coach of the year, Littbarski, placed his bet on the Brazilian to lead the team, but without success. With the arrival of the current coach, Magath, the crisis worsened. The coach became irritated with the player's behavior and left him out of last weekend's match, the final round of the German Championship.
The Brazilian's future is uncertain, and he has been criticized by the European press. After leaving Santos, Diego had a lackluster spell at Porto. Two years later, he moved to Germany, where he excelled at Werder Bremen. From there, he went to Juventus, where he failed to replicate his previous success, scoring only five goals in nearly 40 games. He lost his place in the Brazilian national team and has not been called up since Mano Menezes took over as coach.
The star decided to return to Germany, this time to Wolfsburg, but was also unsuccessful. He played 34 games and scored only six goals. This week, Magath has already shown that he no longer counts on the Brazilian. "If anyone wants to sign Diego, contact us," he told the German newspaper Bild. The club would demand a payment of 10 million euros, 50% less than what Wolfsburg paid to bring him in a year ago.
