Congressman explains use of Chamber email to appoint personal assistants.

Bahia 247

Federal deputy Edson Pimenta (PSD) sent a note to Bahia 247 to explain information from blogger Lauro Jardim, of Veja, and reproduced in this space, that he sent his personal trainer's business card to all the other 512 parliamentarians from his institutional email.

Pimenta explains that the professional's recommendation was only for "four or five deputies" who "asked" for the young man's contact information, and that "by accident" his new intern ended up sending the message to other offices.

Below is the clarification note from Representative Edson Pimenta.

Clarification note

We refer to the note published on your website to inform you that this Office, through any of the people who work here, has never had the slightest intention of "giving a boost to a friend's career" and, much less, acting shamelessly, as stated in the aforementioned note, violating the principles of ethics and morality.

Our sole purpose was to pass on to a few close colleagues (only four or five people), at their request—that is, they themselves asked for it—the contact information of a professional who could assist them with physical training activities. Unfortunately, due to an oversight by our intern, who has only been with us for two weeks, it appears that other offices also received the email, which, we reiterate, was not our intention.

We would never intentionally do something like that, as we always prioritize ethics and correct procedures in our work, always ensuring the integrity of our conduct in relation to all the means we use in our daily work, including means of communication. Therefore, we would never, ever consent to any form of misuse without legitimate purpose. In this context, something like what happened could only have occurred due to sheer bad luck, accidentally, that is, a completely involuntary mistake and certainly the result of incorrect handling of the computer keys when selecting contacts in the email inbox.

With these clarifications, we hope to be clearing up this major misunderstanding, and we remain at your disposal for any further questions.

We appreciate your kind attention and hope to merit your consideration in giving us the opportunity to clarify this matter by publishing this note on your website for the information of your followers.

Cordially,
Edson Pimenta
