A member of parliament from the PSB party wants to remove the party leader to strengthen the vote against Temer.

Congressman Julio Delgado (PSB-MG), from the party's wing opposed to Michel Temer, intends to present a request this Wednesday to remove the party's leader in the Chamber of Deputies, Tereza Cristina (MS), who is aligned with the government. The maneuver by the congressman from Minas Gerais, who would become the leader if the action is successful, could have repercussions on the vote on the charges against Temer within the Chamber's Constitution and Justice Committee.

BRASILIA (Reuters) - PSB congressman Julio Delgado (MG), from the party wing opposed to President Michel Temer, intends to present a request this Wednesday to remove the party's leader in the Chamber, Tereza Cristina (MS), who is aligned with the government.

The maneuvering by the congressman from Minas Gerais, who would become the leader if the action is successful, could have repercussions on the vote on the charges against Temer within the Constitution and Justice Committee (CCJ) of the Chamber of Deputies.

Delgado said he had secured the support of 19 of the 37 members of parliament to remove Tereza Cristina from office.

If the congressman from Minas Gerais becomes leader, he would have the power to replace, for example, at least two members of the party on the CCJ (Constitution and Justice Committee) who tend to vote in favor of the president.

Delgado accuses the government of maneuvering to try to keep Tereza in the party leadership. This Wednesday, Temer dismissed the Ministers of Defense, Raul Jungmann, and of Mines and Energy, Fernando Bezerra Coelho, who are expected to reassume their mandates in the Chamber of Deputies representing the PSB in Pernambuco.

According to Delgado, the two dismissed ministers are expected to fill the seats of two party deputies opposed to Temer, Creuza Pereira and Severino Ninho, both also from Pernambuco.

In an interview with journalists, the aspiring party leader stated that he would attempt to file a request to remove the current leader from the Chamber of Deputies before Jungmann and Bezerra Coelho were officially appointed as deputies, replacing Creuza and Severino, who were opposed to Temer.
