A day after the execution of Brazilian Rodrigo Gularte, convicted of drug trafficking, Congressman Major Olímpio (PDT-SP) congratulated the Indonesian government for carrying out the sentence; "No one celebrates death, but it's one less piece of trash in humanity. And other countries, including ours, shouldn't waste time reprimanding countries that take action," stated the congressman from São Paulo, a member of the pro-gun lobby.

Olímpio, a member of the Public Security Caucus, also known as the "bullet caucus," criticized Brazilian efforts to prevent the execution. "I want to commend the Indonesian government, specifically its president, Joko, for maintaining a firm stance and not yielding to appeals regarding the execution of heinous criminals, especially drug traffickers."
