Congresswoman proposes Cehop home settlement plan.

State Representative Silvia Fontes (PDT) yesterday presented a request suggesting to the state government the creation of a State Settlement Plan for houses in the real estate portfolio of the State Housing and Public Works Company (Cehop); according to her, in Nossa Senhora do Socorro alone, 4,5 housing units are in an irregular situation, with a high outstanding debt, which has left their residents fearful of being evicted from their properties; she will bring the case to Governor Jackson Barreto.

Sergipe 247 - State Representative Silvia Fontes (PDT) yesterday submitted a request suggesting to the state government the creation of a State Settlement Plan for houses held in the real estate portfolio of the State Housing and Public Works Company (Cehop). According to her, in Nossa Senhora do Socorro alone, 4,5 housing units are in an irregular situation, with a high outstanding debt, which has left their residents fearful of being evicted from their properties.

“I am counting on Governor Jackson Barreto’s sensitivity so that, together with Cehop, we can create a Settlement Plan. Nothing is more terrifying than knowing that these residents could lose their homes. We know that the State cannot forgive debts, but that doesn’t prevent it from creating a viable plan to settle these debts,” she said. The parliamentarian reported that she learned of a case involving a resident who received a letter from Cehop demanding the regularization of the contract and informing them that appropriate legal measures would be taken. “We know what measures those are. These people are waging an eternal battle trying to regularize this situation,” she emphasized.

The congresswoman recalled that, in 1999, part of Cehop's real estate portfolio was sold by then-governor Albano Franco to Caixa Econômica Federal, which created a settlement plan, benefiting the owners of some of the residences, who are now in a regular situation. State congresswoman Maria Mendonça (PP) gave a similar account, recalling the settlement of residences in housing complexes in the municipalities of São Cristóvão and Itabaiana, also during Albano Franco's government.

In a separate statement, state representative Padre Inaldo (PC do B) confirmed the concern of residents of the Marcos Freire, João Alves, and Albano Franco housing complexes (all in Socorro) regarding the payment of their mortgages. "I want to join this fight. We walk through Socorro and witness the suffering of the people, years and years paying for their homes without the right to the proper documentation," he said.
