Congresswoman funds PR headquarters with Chamber of Deputies funds.

Magda Mofatto (GO), the wealthiest member of the National Congress, with a declared net worth of R$ 21 million, rents a property in Goiânia for R$ 13,8 per month that serves as her political office and party headquarters, violating Chamber rules; the mansion, located in the Marista sector, one of the most expensive neighborhoods in the capital of Goiás, has already consumed R$ 450 of taxpayer money in three years; the Chamber also pays for water, electricity, landline and cell phone service, and cable TV.

247 - The wealthiest congresswoman in the Chamber of Deputies, with a declared net worth of R$ 21 million, Magda Mofatto (PR-GO), rents a townhouse in Setor Marista, one of Goiânia's most upscale neighborhoods, to meet with her constituents. However, she passes the property's bill on to the Chamber, according to a report by the website. Congress in FocusSince April 2013, the House has reimbursed the congresswoman R$ 389 for the rental of R$ 13,8.

Every member of parliament has a budget at their disposal – in the case of the congresswoman from Goiás, R$ 33,5 per month – to cover expenses related to their mandate. Among the permitted expenses is the rent for a political representation office in their home state.

The problem is that the state headquarters of the Republican Party (PR), presided over by her husband, Flávio de Paula Canedo, operates at the same address as the office. In a sort of combo deal, the Chamber is simultaneously funding the congresswoman's political office and her party's headquarters, which violates the rules regarding expense reimbursements.

Reimbursements to the congresswoman for expenses related to the property are not limited to rent. Services such as water, electricity, landline and cell phone service, and cable TV installed in Magda's office and the PR state headquarters in Goiânia have consumed R$ 61 from public funds since 2013. In other words, adding up the bills, the mansion cost taxpayers R$ 450 in three years.

Between March 23 and April 22, expenses for landline-to-cell phone calls alone reached R$ 3,3. The phone number originating the calls from the office is the same as the number registered with the electoral board, as recorded with the Superior Electoral Court (TSE). Everything is mixed up. And illegal.
