With his name mentioned in at least 70 calls related to Operation Monte Carlo, the Federal Police operation that arrested illegal gambling operator Carlinhos Cachoeira, the PSDB congressman's days are numbered before he has to explain himself.
247 – After Senator Demóstenes Torres (independent, Goiás), Congressman Carlos Leréia (PSDB) may be the next to receive punishment from the party for his involvement with illegal gambling operator Carlinhos Cachoeira. The congressman's name appears in 70 wiretapped phone calls intercepted by the Federal Police in Operation Monte Carlo, which arrested the racketeer in February. If it were up to the PSDB leadership, Goiás congressman Carlos Alberto Leréia (another one implicated in Carlinhos Cachoeira's wiretaps) could start packing his bags to follow the same path as Demóstenes Torres in the DEM party.
Demosthenes promised to explain his relationship with Cachoeira, but failed, and requested to leave the DEM party last week to avoid expulsion. Leréia hasn't even reached the point of explaining himself to the party yet, but according to Sérgio Guerra, that day is approaching.
If Leréia does not provide convincing explanations in the coming days, the PSDB party warns: they will file a lawsuit against the congressman.
