Dengue fever in the capital: 27 cases in two months.
An outbreak of the disease is alarming Goiânia and causing overcrowding in health units; in the first two months of 2012, 3.181 cases were registered; Army personnel are assisting in triage, and the Municipal Health Department is working hard to control the epidemic.
The Editorial Team In the first two months of this year alone, 27.289 cases of dengue fever were registered in Goiânia. This information comes from the Municipal Health Department (SMS), which also announced this Friday (March 8th) that there has been a reduction in the number of deaths related to the disease, considering the number of cases.
According to the health department, in January and February of 2012, when 3.181 people were diagnosed with dengue fever in the capital, eight deaths were recorded. This year, even with so many confirmed cases of the disease, only 12 suspected deaths are being investigated.
Municipal Health Secretary Fernando Machado emphasizes that several actions are being carried out to reduce the proliferation of the transmitting mosquito and, consequently, reduce cases of dengue fever. According to him, the control efforts began in October of last year.

As announced by the department, to combat the dengue epidemic, emergency care was expanded and blood collection for diagnosis was decentralized, now operating in all units and not just in CAIS and CIAMS.
The department also notes that the population is more attentive to combating the disease, but warns that the city is still experiencing an epidemic and much remains to be done.
