The leader of the DEM party in the Federal Chamber, Mendonça Filho (PE), strongly criticized the 1,9% contraction of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the second quarter; according to the Democrat, the fall in economic growth and the entry into what economists call a technical recession prove that the PT destroyed the foundations of the national economy, in addition to plunging the country into the worst recession of the last 25 years; "The PT's administration is an economic disaster that has plunged the country into the biggest recession of the last 25 years," he declared.
Pernambuco 247 - The leader of the DEM party in the Chamber of Deputies, Mendonça Filho (PE), harshly criticized the economic policy of President Dilma Rousseff's government. During a speech on the floor of the House, the Democrat stated that the 1,9% drop in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the second quarter proves that the PT destroyed the foundations of the national economy, in addition to plunging the country into the worst recession in the last 25 years.
"The PT's administration is an economic disaster that has plunged the country into the worst recession in the last 25 years. Unfortunately, it is the Brazilian people who are paying the price with rising unemployment, rampant inflation, and other consequences of the recession," he declared.
According to Mendonça, the quarterly result is the worst ever recorded since the first quarter of 2009. "Since taking office, the PT has specialized in destroying the country's economic foundations," he stated. "Unfortunately, it will take time to regain the position we once had and get back on the path to growth," the Democrat added.
"The economy's investment rate fell, in just one year, from 19,5% of GDP to 17,8%. This reflects the total discouragement of the productive sector. This makes any recovery much more distant," he assessed. He also said that the outlook for next year is also negative. "We will probably have another drop in GDP next year, a drop that would lead the country to the worst recessionary period in its history," he said.
