Leonardo Lucena_PE247 – The candidate for President of the Chamber of Deputies, Júlio Delgado (PSB-MG), spoke out regarding the accusations against Henrique Eduardo Alves (PMDB-RN), a member of the PMDB party. The socialist stated that he "is not the Severino of the race," referring to the former president of the Chamber, Severino Cavalcanti, who resigned from his mandate after the so-called "Mensalinho" scandal in 2005.
Delgado, who sees his candidacy as an alternative, not an opposition one, to the government, defended a thorough investigation into the accusations against Henrique Eduardo Alves. "I'm not the Severino in this race," he told Portal IG. The reference to the progressive politician stemmed from Severino Cavalcanti's involvement in the "Mensalinho" case in 2005, when the then-federal deputy was accused of extorting bribes from a businessman to keep his restaurant open. That same year, he resigned his mandate to avoid being impeached.
“I can state categorically that Severino fell due to ethical allegations. I am not the one representing Severino in this process. Thank God, I have no complaints against me; I have already been the rapporteur in cases where my life here was investigated from top to bottom, and I can say that if there is anyone representing Severino in this election, it is not me,” stated Delgado. Severino Cavalcanti's press office did not answer phone calls from [source missing]. Pernambuco 247.
On the other hand, the leader of the PMDB in the Chamber of Deputies, Henrique Eduardo Alves, is being accused of favoring the construction company Bonacci Engenharia, owned by his former advisor Aluízio Dutra de Almeida, by using parliamentary amendments. Reports indicate that the PMDB member's objective was to ensure that the company would be responsible for projects in municipalities in Rio Grande do Norte governed by the PMDB.
Alves denies the accusations and says the allegations are a political game. The congressman, who has the declared support of 12 parties, confirms the release of amendments that benefit Rio Grande do Norte, but has stated that the oversight of how the funds are used is the responsibility of the municipalities in his state.
