Del Carmen was nominated by Rui to be the vice-presidential candidate for the PCdoB.

Bahia 247 - Despite having remained practically aloof from the negotiations for the composition of the opposition's main ticket in Salvador, at the convention that formalized the candidacy of Alice Portugal (PCdoB) on Sunday (31), Governor Rui Costa (PT) said that he spoke personally with Deputy Maria Del Carmen and asked her to accept being a candidate for vice-mayor.

According to him, Del Carmen confirmed to him that she had accepted the mission in a phone conversation on Saturday night (30). "It is with great joy that I received this news and last night (30) I spoke to her on the phone, and she confirmed the acceptance of the request."

At the convention, Rui highlighted the "technical profile" of the candidate for vice-mayor.

"If you look among politicians—those who hold office, those who don't, those who have held office in the past—which people are technically, architecturally, in terms of planning, and urban planning, knowledgeable about Salvador? If you were to list three people, you would inevitably have to mention Maria Del Carmen. Maria knows every low-lying area, every hill, she knows the solutions and projects for our city."

Alice said she was "pleased" with the PT's nomination for her running mate. She accepted Maria Del Carmen's name "wholeheartedly," and also highlighted the PT member's "identification" with Salvador.

According to members of the Workers' Party, Maria Del Carmen did not participate in the convention because she is traveling abroad.
