SP 247 - The defense of former Dersa president Laurence Casagrande Lourenço classified on Tuesday, the 7th, as "absolutely false the rumor that he was thinking about making a plea bargain" (read here).
According to lawyer Eduardo Carnelós, who defends Laurence, he 'is not an informant, nor could he become one, for the simple and compelling reason that he has never committed any crime'.
Appointed to Dersa by former governor and PSDB presidential candidate Geraldo Alckmin, Laurence Lourenço has been in jail since June 21 on suspicion of participating in a corruption scheme that embezzled more than R$ 600 million from the Rodoanel highway construction project.
Read the full statement from Laurence's defense:
"Laurence Casagrande Lourenço's defense team informs that the rumor that he is considering making a plea bargain is absolutely false. Laurence is not an informant, nor could he become one, for the simple and compelling reason that he has never committed any crime, and therefore has nothing to present in that regard."
"As if the violence against Laurence, who has been illegally and unjustly imprisoned since June 21st of this year, wasn't enough, the "leaked" information that he was considering or negotiating a plea bargain further damages his image by attributing to him the status of an informant, which is a disgusting lie that must be rejected."
"It is regrettable that some journalists have already spread the rumor without even bothering to seek confirmation for such a serious hypothesis, which brings so many damaging consequences to the life of a good man like Laurence Casagrande Lourenço."
