Déda: "Campos will not commit hara-kiri"

"Recife is very far from Tokyo," says the governor of Sergipe; he bets that his colleague Eduardo Campos, of the PSB, will not break with the PT in 2014; "I can't see Eduardo Campos leading a break with this project that he helped build and of which he is one of the main leaders."

Déda: "Campos will not commit hara-kiri"

247 - A frequent interlocutor of President Dilma Rousseff, former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and a personal friend of Eduardo Campos, the governor of Sergipe, Marcelo Déda, from the PT party, gave an interesting interview to the Estado de S. Paulo newspaper, in which he predicted that his Pernambuco counterpart would not break the governing alliance in 2014. Read some excerpts below:

The rise of Campos and the re-election of Dilma

The rise of Eduardo Campos strengthens a political field whose greatest responsibility is to support the project that Dilma and Lula led. I can't see Eduardo Campos leading a break with this project that he helped build and of which he is one of the main leaders. Now, you can't suppress the desires of an ally. Dialogue is two-way: it's not just about telling Eduardo Campos what we want, it's also about listening to the aspirations of allies. Eduardo Campos is legitimizing himself as a national leader every day, but that's no guarantee of success in elections. The watchword, when an ally is strengthened within a coalition, is not repression, it's seduction.

How to seduce Campos

In politics, which is something he knows how to do like few others, it's about showing Eduardo Campos the strategic role of the party and his leadership in the continuity of Dilma's government. It's about showing that the discussion surrounding the government's support isn't mutually exclusive, where the growth of one party doesn't necessarily mean the exclusion of another.

He was the leading candidate in 2018.

I'm biased, because I'm known as an ally. I don't find it strange that the leadership of the process in 2018, or 2022, or whenever, is in the hands of one of the allied parties.

Campos' alliance with Aécio Neves

Recife is very far from Tokyo. Eduardo Campos wouldn't commit hara-kiri.
