Debate about succession is a "summer shower"

The governor of Pernambuco and pre-candidate for the Presidency, Eduardo Campos (PSB), stated that he has not yet chosen a name to head the state socialist ticket for the October election. Campos described the speculation about possible names for the race for the Palácio do Campo das Princesas (Governor's Palace) as a "summer shower," and guaranteed that he will announce the name of his chosen successor as soon as he decides who will run for his position. The socialist also denied that he was close to setting a date for the official launch of the PSB's national campaign. Campos has until April 4th to resign from his current position.

Pernambuco 247 - The governor of Pernambuco, Eduardo Campos (PSB), stated that he has not yet chosen a name to head the state socialist ticket for the October election. Campos described the speculation about possible names for the race for the Palácio do Campo das Princesas (Governor's Palace) as a "summer shower," and guaranteed that he will announce the name of his chosen successor as soon as he decides who will run. The socialist also denied that he was close to setting a date for the official launch of the PSB's national campaign, which will have the governor himself as a candidate for President of the Republic in the next elections.

“I haven’t spoken to absolutely any party, to anyone. When I start the talks, I will inform the press and give the date when things will be finished. Everything else is just summer rain,” Campos declared this Monday (13), at the provisional government headquarters, at the Convention Center, in Olinda (Recife Metropolitan Region). “It’s not the time to talk, it’s time to take care of the administration, to take care of Pernambuco, to get things done. When the time comes, the choice will be quick, as I have done every other time,” he added.

Campos' decision should be made official before April 4th – the date on which the governor must resign from the Government of Pernambuco to run for president in the October elections. However, the governor denied that he will make the choice next Friday (17), when a meeting with the PSB Executive is scheduled. “It’s a meeting we hold every year to define work schedules. I will not make any decisions at that meeting,” he assured.

During the launch of the 2014 public servants' payment schedule, Campos also denied that he would define the official start date of the PSB presidential campaign during next Friday's meeting. "It wasn't on my agenda," he joked. The information had been given by the party's national vice-president, Roberto Amaral (CE), who is scheduled to meet with Campos this Monday.

As the state elections approach, several names are being considered to run for governor in October under the PSB party. Among the candidates are secretaries Paulo Câmara (Finance - PSB) and Tadeu Alencar (Chief of Staff - PSB); Vice-Governor João Lyra (PSB); and former Minister of National Integration Fernando Bezerra Coelho (PSB), with the latter two being the most favored by the media to contest the election. Senator Armando Monteiro (PTB) was also considered, but, given Campos' uncertainty, he abandoned an alliance with the PSB to launch his own ticket for Governor.
