"Gay conversion therapy is quackery," says congresswoman from Bahia.
Bahia state representative Fabíola Mansur (PSB) presented a motion of repudiation in the Legislative Assembly against the injunction granted by the federal judge of the 14th Court of Brasília, Waldemar Claudio de Carvalho, which authorizes psychologists to use sexual orientation change efforts, better known as 'gay conversion therapy'; "Homosexuality is not a disease, it is a very personal decision that must be respected by everyone: those who are part of the LGBT community and those who do not belong to it. This motion of repudiation is against this injunction that will generate more setbacks, more violence, more deaths, more prejudice, and we cannot remain silent in the face of such a thing," said Fabíola.
Bahia 247 - State deputy from Bahia, Fabíola Mansur (PSB), presented on Tuesday (19) a motion of repudiation against the injunction granted by the federal judge of the 14th Court of Brasília, Waldemar Claudio de Carvalho, which authorizes psychologists to use sexual conversion therapy, better known as 'gay cure', which had been suspended since 1999 by the National Council of Psychology.
"Homosexuality is not a disease, it is a very personal decision that should be respected by everyone: those who are part of the LGBT community and those who do not belong to it. This motion of repudiation of this injunction will generate more setbacks, more violence, more deaths, more prejudice, and we cannot remain silent in the face of such a thing," said Fabíola.
According to the congresswoman, the argument of 'scientific freedom' used by the magistrate "is fallacious," since homosexuality was removed from the World Health Organization's list of diseases in 1990.
"There is no scientific basis for this. This is a recipe for conservatism and fundamentalism that will certainly only increase discrimination, violating acquired rights. This is charlatanism," says the socialist.
