PSB leadership extends deadline for forming alliances.
The PSB (Brazilian Socialist Party) has set its course and outlined strategies for the path of the governor of Pernambuco, Eduardo Campos, towards the Palácio do Planalto (Presidential Palace), as well as for forming alliances for the state elections. After a meeting that lasted about six hours, held in Recife, the party leadership decided that state-level matters will be discussed starting at the end of March, ensuring more time for the differences between the PSB and Rede Sustentabilidade (Sustainability Network) to be resolved.
Pernambuco 247 - The PSB (Brazilian Socialist Party) has set its pace and outlined strategies for the path of the governor of Pernambuco, Eduardo Campos, towards the Palácio do Planalto (Presidential Palace), as well as for forming alliances for the state elections. After a meeting that lasted about six hours, held in Recife, the party leadership decided that state-level matters will be discussed starting at the end of March, ensuring more time for the differences between the PSB and Rede Sustentabilidade (Sustainability Network) to be resolved. The party also reportedly set February 4th as the date to launch the document outlining the basic guidelines of its government program, at an event scheduled to take place in Brasília.
After its release, the document will be sent to the party's state directorates, which will have until March 10th to assess the situation in each location and contribute to the final text of the government program. The main objective is to ensure time for the situation in each state to be carefully evaluated so that the PSB can decide, without major disruptions, whether or not to form alliances, as needed. The biggest obstacles to forming alliances are in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
“We are going to prepare a report on the situation in that state. We will determine if the alliances will lead to unity, if there will be dispersion without problems, or dispersion with some problems, so that, only on March 25th, the party can hold its first executive meeting and begin the debate on the alliance policy,” Campos said after the meeting ended.
The PSB also confirmed the holding of regional seminars in Porto Alegre (February 22), Rio de Janeiro (March 15), Recife (April 5), Goiânia (April 12) and Manaus (April 26), which will serve to identify regional demands. Campos stated that a date for the official launch of his candidacy for President of the Republic has not been discussed. "Stay calm, this has not been discussed," he told reporters.
