Gilberto Prazeres_247 - The much-questioned quality of mobile phone service in Pernambuco – offered by five different operators – will be the subject of an investigation by the State Legislative Assembly (Alepe). Next Thursday (3), the Parliamentary Inquiry Commission will be installed to investigate the problems that prevent the proper provision of the service. The group will be composed of nine parliamentarians, who will have 120 days to complete their work, and may apply sanctions to the licensed providers in the State.

The process of establishing the CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry) will be presided over by the applicant, Deputy Betinho Gomes (PSDB), who may, at the start of the proceedings, be appointed to the presidency of the committee. “As everyone is experiencing firsthand, mobile phone service in Pernambuco is not offered with the quality expected by customers. It is necessary to know why this is,” the parliamentarian indicated.

The Legislative Assembly of Pernambuco (Alepe) had already established a special commission to investigate the problems with cell phone service in Pernambuco. The commission worked for 90 days, summoning the various sectors involved. “We called the operators, the Consumer Protection Agency (Procon), and the Public Prosecutor's Office of Pernambuco (MPPE), which even proposed a Conduct Adjustment Agreement (TAC), but the companies refused to sign it,” revealed Betinho Gomes.

To assume the role of rapporteur for the CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry), the most likely candidate is Deputy Rodrigo Novaes (PSD). The commission also includes Deputies Clodoaldo Magalhães, Daniel Coelho (PSDB), Diogo Moraes (PSB), Eriberto Medeiros (PTC), Isabel Cristina (PT), Luciano Siqueira (PCdoB), and Raimundo Pimentel. The Government Leader in the Assembly, Deputy Waldemar Borges (PSB), nominated seven of the nine members of the CPI. The opposition leader, Antônio Moraes, nominated the remaining two.

This will be the first CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry) established by the current legislature. The request to create the commission was approved, just over a month ago, by the 49 deputies who hold seats in the Alepe (Legislative Assembly of Pernambuco).
