Corinthians will pay for the removal of pipelines at Itaquerão stadium.

The São Paulo club assumed responsibility on Monday for the total cost of removing Transpetro pipelines located in the area where it will build its stadium.

Corinthians assumed responsibility on Monday for the total cost of removing Transpetro pipelines located in the area where it will build its stadium, a favorite to host the opening game of the 2014 World Cup. The works in Itaquera, in the eastern zone of São Paulo, are expected to last 60 days, with an estimated cost of R$ 30 million.

The club has committed to funding the removal and relocation of the pipelines in a meeting with the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office, Odebrecht (the company responsible for the stadium's construction), and Transpetro (a subsidiary of Petrobras). The company and Corinthians are expected to sign a liability agreement to be submitted to the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office by the 23rd of this month.

After the document is signed, Transpetro will deliver the engineering plans, regulations, and preliminary licenses to guide the club in removing the pipelines. However, the execution of the work will be the responsibility of another company to be contracted by Corinthians.

The agreement signed this Monday removes another obstacle to the construction of Itaquerão, Corinthians' stadium that will host World Cup matches in São Paulo. The arena is the favorite to host the opening match of the event.
