Traditional food, culture, and leisure activities attract visitors to Salvador's street markets.
The Rio Vermelho Market (Ceasinha) and the Food Supply Center (Ceasa) in Cia, both in Salvador, have already started selling typical products for the June festivities; the former was decorated for São João by the vendors themselves, allowing the public to get into the festive spirit; themed stalls offer handicrafts and food, such as corn, peanuts, cakes, sweets and nuts, in a setting set up at the entrance of the establishment.
Bahia 247 - The Rio Vermelho Market (Ceasinha) and the Food Supply Center (Ceasa) in Cia, both in Salvador, have already started selling typical products for the June festivities. The former was decorated for São João by the vendors themselves, allowing the public to get into the festive spirit. Themed stalls offer handicrafts and food, such as corn, peanuts, cakes, sweets, and nuts, in a setting set up at the entrance of the establishment.
Ceasinha's special program provides leisure for customers with traditional music and dances. This Friday (17), the Banda Bond Boca cheered up those passing by. "Everything is very beautiful. Today, by chance, I came with my daughter and we both enjoyed it a lot. Good food and guaranteed fun," says business administrator Flávia Rey. Ceasinha was also the stage for the closing presentation of activities for the São João recess at the Cristo é Vida Municipal School. Students from the institution, located in Chapada do Rio Vermelho, played in the June quadrille.
"We've prepared a special program for São João. At the Rio Vermelho Market, customers can have fun and buy quality products. São João hasn't even arrived yet, but people are already in the spirit here," explains the market administrator, Paulo Henrique Martins. On June 23rd, the eve of São João, Ceasinha will be open from 7 am to 15 pm. On the 24th, the market will be closed, reopening the following Saturday at its normal hours.
Ceasa do Cia
If the Ceasinha do Rio Vermelho is prepared for the consumer, the Ceasa do Cia guarantees unbeatable offers to retailers and wholesalers. During the June festivities, foods such as corn, peanuts, and oranges are sold at below-market prices. According to the superintendent of Ceasa do Cia, Eugênio Burgos, the buyer can save up to 30% on the purchase of these products.
"Most of these products come from Santo Antônio de Jesus, Irecê, Cruz das Almas, and Rio Real, and are sold at a special price, mainly targeting resellers. If the buyer purchases here, they can make a considerable profit by selling to the market," Burgos assures.
At the Ceasa do Cia market, you can see trucks full of products and a bustling flow of interested people. The markets take place three times a week (Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays), and everyone benefits: those who sell and those who buy to resell. Around five thousand people purchase quality items there daily.
"I've been buying food here for many years. Here, we buy cheaper and manage to make a living from the sales. I sell in Camaçari at market price and support my family with the money," says market vendor José Raimundo Assis. The markets operate from 3:30 am to 17 pm in the Ceasa parking lot.
