      Classic of the Masses: Sport and Santa Cruz face off in the Pernambuco state championship final.

      Because they had the best campaign, Sport only needs two draws to win the championship, meaning that today the Lion of the Island can even draw and still be champions for the 40th time; while the Tricolor from Arruda is aiming for its 26th state title.

      Leonardo Lucena_247 - Later today, at 16 pm, at the Ilha do Retiro Stadium, in Recife, the final of the Pernambuco championship will take place between Sport and Santa Cruz. In the first duel, which took place last Sunday (6) at the Arruda Stadium, home of Santa, the confrontation did not go beyond 0-0. As it had the best campaign, Sport plays for two equal results, that is, it can even draw, to be champion for the 40th time. The tricolor from Arruda is trying for the state title number 26.

      Throughout the championship, the teams faced each other twice. With two victories over Santa Cruz, the red-and-black team prevailed both at Arruda, winning 3-1, and at Ilha do Retiro, winning 2-1. Sport finished the first phase in first place, with 50 points, 15 wins, five draws and two losses, a success rate of 76%. Santa Cruz finished second, with 44 points, 14 wins, two draws and six losses, a success rate of 67%.

      In the first leg of the final, at Arruda stadium, it was a tight game with few scoring opportunities. On one side, Sport, with three defenders, played under heavy pressure against the Santa Cruz team. On the other, the midfielders for the tricolor team, Luciano Henrique and Natan, were unable to create good plays against a compact defensive system from the red-and-black team.
