Rain: Death toll in Salvador reaches 13

Bahia 247 - Firefighters found this morning the body of another victim of the landslide in the Barro Branco area, located on Avenida San Martin, in Salvador. The victim, Sivaldo Filho, would have celebrated his birthday today (28).

Rescue teams are continuing the search for two people who are still missing. Yesterday (27), eight people died and another four people were rescued with injuries.

The embankment collapsed around 5 a.m., hitting four houses. In addition to this incident, another landslide in the Marotinho area of ​​Bom Juá killed four other members of the same family.

With the body found this morning, the death toll from the rain that has been hitting Salvador since Sunday, the 26th, has risen to 13.

In San Martin, 12 victims had already been located, eight dead and four injured. The victims' identities were not released by official sources; however, according to information from residents of the neighborhood, those among the dead were Samuel dos Santos, 12; Elaine Silva, 31; Magnólia Paim, 40; José Cosme, 50; Maria Tereza, 65; Maria José, 71; and Cássia Souza, 35. The eighth death was confirmed by the head of the General Communication Office of the City Hall, Roberto Messias.

Among the survivors is a 14-year-old girl who was taken to Roberto Santos Hospital. The names of three other people have not been released. Their health status has not been reported. The Fire Department estimates that other people may still be buried.

The HGE communications office reported that Jeane da Cunha Bispo and an eight-year-old boy with the initials ABP, victims of the landslide in the Marotinho area of ​​Bom Juá, remain hospitalized in serious condition. A 13-year-old girl with the initials BA was discharged this Monday afternoon.
