The death toll from the Kiss nightclub fire has reached 238.
A young man who was hospitalized at Santa Casa, in Porto Alegre, died early Tuesday afternoon. The 20-year-old, whose identity the family preferred to keep private, is the fourth victim among patients hospitalized as a result of the fire at the Kiss nightclub in Santa Maria (RS), on January 27.

Brasilia – A young man who was hospitalized at Santa Casa, in Porto Alegre, died in the early afternoon today (5). The 20-year-old is the fourth victim among patients hospitalized as a result of the fire at the Kiss nightclub, in Santa Maria (RS), on January 27. At the family's request, the government of Rio Grande do Sul did not release the young man's name. With this confirmation, the number of deaths due to the fire reaches 238.
Other patients remain hospitalized in hospitals in five cities in Rio Grande do Sul. In the last 24 hours, 11 discharges were recorded, one in Ijuí, two in Porto Alegre and eight in Santa Maria.
This morning, technicians from the General Institute of Forensics (IGP) of Rio Grande do Sul began another investigation at the nightclub to identify the point where the fire started and confirm details provided by the injured and other people involved in the case who gave statements to the police.
The results of the new forensic examination have not yet been scheduled for release. The investigations continue with the taking of more testimonies. The press office of the Rio Grande do Sul Civil Police informed that the conclusions about the fire should only be presented at the end of February, almost 30 days after the event.
