247 – The president of Companhia Energética de Minas Gerais (Cemig), Mauro Borges, announced that the state-owned company is interested in buying thermoelectric assets from Petrobras – valued at US$7 billion to US$8 billion.
"The discussion with Petrobras is open. We have a long and profitable relationship with the oil company, with several joint ventures," Borges stated. "I was at Petrobras discussing this, and the reception was fantastic."
According to him, one possibility is to use the partnership with the mining company Vale, Aliança Geração de Energia: "We can use this private vehicle to establish an agreement with Petrobras. This is quite possible. It all depends on Petrobras, whether they want to stay in the business, or whether they want to exit (the thermoelectric plant operation)," he said.
The company also wants to move forward in the gas sector. "Our growth strategy is based on private vehicles, which have low leverage, such as the company created with Vale, and are successful businesses," said Borges.
