Cemig supports rehabilitation programs in the prison system.

Cemig and the Government of Minas Gerais will allocate R$ 1 million to 36 Associations for the Protection and Assistance of Convicts (APACs) and also to the Brazilian Fraternity for Assistance to Convicts (FBAC) in order to implement systems for efficiency, modernization and savings in the use of electricity, through the Intelligent Energy Program.

Mines 247 - Cemig and the Government of Minas Gerais will allocate R$ 1 million to 36 Associations for the Protection and Assistance of Convicts (APACs) and also to the Brazilian Fraternity for Assistance to Convicts (FBAC). The announcement was made last Friday (July 13th) by the Director of Institutional Relations and Communication at Cemig, Thiago de Azevedo Camargo, in the presence of members of the Public Prosecutor's Office, Minas pela Paz, and FBAC.

According to the director of Cemig, "we believe that these initiatives will bring benefits to thousands of people served by these institutions." The money is earmarked for the implementation of systems to improve efficiency, modernize, and save on electricity use through the Smart Energy Program.

According to the director of Cemig, "the entities will save on their electricity bills, and the resources saved can be reinvested in improvements. Furthermore, it will provide better working conditions for the agents and comfort for those serving sentences." The energy efficiency project includes replacing obsolete internal lighting systems with LED lamps, high-power showers with electronic showers, and old refrigerators and freezers with equipment bearing the PROCEL seal.

According to FBAC, this partnership is of fundamental importance. For its executive director, Valdeci Ferreira, "in addition to improving the physical structures of the associations, the partnership will enable the correct application of the APAC methodology."

The Deputy Secretary of State for Prison Administration, Marcelo José Gonçalves Costa, praised Cemig's action in his speech: "You have no idea of ​​the magnitude of having a company like Cemig as your partner in a social action to rehabilitate people." He added, "Partnering with a company that has social responsibility and transmits this to people intensely, as Cemig does, certainly makes our action more concrete."

Those participating in the signing ceremony for the project launch, which will consolidate the start of the actions, included methodology inspector Alexandre Antônio de Oliveira, representing the executive director of FBAC, Valdeci Antônio Ferreira; the coordinating director of the Minas pela Paz Institute, Marco Antônio Lage, accompanied by the project manager, Enéas Alessandro da Silva Melo, and the manager Maurílio Pedrosa; the Deputy Secretary of State for Prison Administration, Marcelo José Gonçalves da Costa; the manager of Efficientia, Ricardo Dias; the chief of staff of the Attorney General's Office of the Municipality of Belo Horizonte, Marisa Seoane Rio Resende; and the Public Prosecutor Antônio de Padova Marchi Junior, from the State Public Prosecutor's Office.

Smart Energy Program

Cemig's Smart Energy Program is regulated by Aneel and is based on encouraging changes in habits, resulting in the reduction and elimination of waste as a way of making good use of and preserving natural resources. Since 2015, the initiative has allocated more than R$ 170 million to projects in various areas, benefiting schools, municipalities, and hospitals.
