Ceará 247 - The state of Ceará will receive R$ 236,2 million in Education Salary funds in 2015, according to a publication by the National Fund for the Development of Education (FNDE) in the Official Gazette of the Union this Monday (February 9th). Of this total, R$ 55,7 million will go to the State Government and R$ 180,4 million to the municipalities. In Brazil, the total amount could reach R$ 12,25 billion, of which R$ 5,7 billion will go to state networks and R$ 6,5 billion to municipal networks.

The Education Salary serves as an additional source of funding for public primary education and is intended to finance programs, projects, and actions in the sector. It is equivalent to 2,5% of the total value of remunerations paid or credited by companies and public and private entities linked to the General Social Security System.

The state and municipal share of the social contribution for education is fully redistributed among the states and their municipalities, proportionally to the number of students enrolled in basic education in their respective school systems, as determined by the school census of the year prior to the distribution. The remaining 10% of the total revenue from the education tax is applied by the FNDE (National Fund for the Development of Education) to programs, projects, and actions aimed at basic education.
