CCJ honors Demóstenes in the gallery of former heads.

The wall of photographs of former presidents was outdated since the removal of the former Democrat in 2012; images of Eunício Oliveira (PMDB-CE) and Vital do Rêgo (now a minister of the TCU), Demóstenes' successors, were also included; the Goiás prosecutor, unlike the other honorees, did not attend the ceremony, if he was even invited; the event on Wednesday (6) was attended by the president of the Senate, Renan Calheiros, several senators who praised the former presidents and had extensive coverage from Agência Senado, which did not even mention Demóstenes' name in its reports

247 - With the presence of the Senate president, Renan Calheiros, the Constitution, Justice and Citizenship Committee (CCJ) inaugurated an electronic voting panel and a photo gallery of former presidents, honoring former senator Demóstenes Torres. Since the removal of the former Democrat, involved in alleged schemes with Carlos Cachoeira, the gallery had been incomplete, but it has now been updated with the inclusions of Eunício Oliveira (PMDB-CE) and Vital do Rêgo (currently a minister of the TCU), Demóstenes' successors. Unlike the others, Torres did not attend the ceremony, if indeed he was invited.

The opening of the gallery and the inauguration of the voting panel are part of the "modernization" process of the CCJ, the most important of the Senate committees. Renan emphasized that the reform is part of a larger project encompassing the Senate Plenary and other permanent committees, with a total cost of less than R$ 4 million. He added that the funds were raised through the sale of the House's payroll to Banco do Brasil and Caixa Econômica.

In addition to the former presidents of the committee, the event was attended by Senators José Agripino (DEM-RN) and Edison Lobão (PMDB-MA), also former presidents, and Senators José Pimentel (PT-CE), Lúcia Vânia (PSDB-GO), Eduardo Amorim (PSC-SE), Roberto Rocha (PSB-MA), and João Capiberibe (PSB-AP), who offered a special greeting to the former presidents of the CCJ and praised the technological advancements incorporated into the legislative process in the House.

After acknowledging and praising President Renan's commitment to these actions, the president of the CCJ (Committee on Constitution, Justice and Citizenship), Senator José Maranhão (PMDB-PB), cited the measures aimed at modernizing the committee's work. In addition to the high-definition electronic panel for recording attendance, voting, and displaying public hearings, touch-screen computers were installed at the senators' desks, which they can use to vote, examine agenda items, and follow news and electronic messages.

The range of technology and innovation also includes electronic voting machines for electing officials; large screens at the entrance to the Alexandre Costa and Nilo Coelho wings displaying information about what is happening in each committee; fingerprint readers to register senators' attendance; and decorative panels inspired by works of art from the Senate to frame the photo galleries of former committee chairs.

“Today we begin a new phase in the work of the CCJ, and I urge everyone to seize this opportunity and work diligently to fulfill the constitutional mission and meet the expectations of the Brazilian people,” declared Maranhão. (With Agência Senado)
