PSDB candidate withdraws from Senate race.
The PSDB Senate candidate, Eduardo Magalhães, has officially withdrawn from the race in Alagoas; according to him, the reasons were a lack of resources and a lack of personal desire; the party has already lost its initial candidates for governor and vice-governor.
Alagoas247 - Political scientist Eduardo Magalhães resigned yesterday (18) from his candidacy for the Senate for the PSDB. Having recently left a ticket that has already lost its initial candidates for governor and vice-governor – respectively Eduardo Tavares and state deputy Gilvan Barros – Magalhães stated that the withdrawal was the most prudent thing for him and for the party. As main reasons for the resignation, the 74-year-old university professor pointed to the lack of campaign structure and the absence of personal desire for a political career. "I only really want to be elected as rector of Ufal [laughs]. Not for the Federal Senate," he said.
Eduardo Magalhães explained that he felt honored to have been chosen by the PSDB party and that, initially, he thought the experience would be interesting. "As a member of the party, I was called upon for reasons convenient for the PSDB, a need of the party, and I accepted because it would be interesting. It was a new experience for me, who had always been analyzing the political process from the outside and, suddenly, I was inside it, as a candidate," he stated.
However, the lack of structure weighed heavily, coupled with a "lack of vocation" for political life, according to him. "Not having the structure for a major election put me in a difficult situation, because running for the Senate requires a large campaign structure," he said. "I also didn't feel comfortable being in an electoral contest. I think I wasn't born for elections, I was born to be a political scientist," he joked.
